Notable Central Ohio Home Sales from the First Half of 2023
Big-name purchasers include Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski, MLB first baseman Evan White and a local car dealer.
The Columbus housing market continued its long-running competitive streak in 2023, and by September, home prices had risen 7.2 percent since last year. The median sale price of homes was in the mid $300,000 range, with monthly sales volumes in the neighborhood of $1 billion, according to Columbus Realtors. Below is a snapshot of some of the biggest sales (involving prominent local citizens) from the winter into summer.
February
Pierre Wooldridge, founder and CEO of All Make Believe, a mobile app design company, and Emily Brobeck paid $1.8 million for a five-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bathroom home in New Albany. The 7,395-square-foot house built in 2002 includes a mother-in-law suite, sauna, a media room, wet bar, outdoor patio with two levels, a brick fireplace and a three-car garage.
April
Seattle Mariners first baseman Evan White and his wife, Kari, paid nearly $2 million for a 2-year-old house in Granville with more than 4,000 square feet. The four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom home, with a finished basement and fireplace, sits on more than 7 acres.
May
Rhett J. Ricart, president of Ricart Automotive, and his wife, Kristen, paid more than $2.6 million for a home in New Albany built in 2004 around a reassembled 1800s timber frame farm house, with Amish woodwork and cabinetry throughout. The nearly 9,000-square-foot residence sits on nearly 8 acres of land and includes six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a heated, in-ground saltwater pool, pool house, movie theater and in-home gym. A heated building nearby is large enough for cars, boats or RV storage.
July
Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski purchased a 7-year-old home in New Albany from retired NBA guard Kevin Martin for $3.6 million. The nearly 9,000-square-foot house has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, a two-story great room with stone fireplace, covered rear porch with a fireplace and a brick terrace with views of a pond and New Albany Country Club’s golf course.
